Outliers Finish Regular Season Against Roughriders

by Paul Taylor

The Utah Outliers hit the road this weekend for their final away series of the 2017-18 WSHL season. The boys are taking on the Superior Roughriders, who may also be the Outliers’ first round opponents in the playoffs. There is a lot on the line this weekend, as Utah only needs two points to secure first place in the Mountain Division. Being on the top of the division is very beneficial as it awards Utah a first round bye and home ice advantage throughout the playoffs. Superior is hoping to spoil that and help out Ogden and Colorado, who battle amongst themselves this weekend.

In the last meeting between these two teams, the Outliers came out victorious in three straight games (10-2, 5-2, 5-2).  Utah is hoping history repeats itself as the team gears up for the playoffs and is working to fine-tune their game. Superior has some momentum winning their last four games. They are still led by dynamic forward Nikita Sheberov, who now sits at 60 goals and 41 assists. His running mate Thore Weyrauch is still doing very well in his own right with 33 goals to go along with 44 assists. Marshall Murphy still holds the nod in net having played 27 games and has earned 10 wins.

Utah has been firing on all cylinders recently, and as it has been all season, contributions are coming from everyone. Ten players have more than 10 goals (five over 20) and fifteen players have over 20 points. The team is still amongst the top in goals for and in the top two for goals against. Dawson Rodin leads the way between the pipes with 21 wins and 7 shutouts.

All three games this weekend will take place at the Sport Stable in Superior, Colorado and broadcasted on Blackdog Enterprises. Friday and Saturday’s games will take place at 7:15 PM an Sunday puck drop will be at 1:30 PM.
