Outliers prepared for first home series of 2018

The Utah Outliers are finally returning to the Accord Ice Center for their first home series in 2018. The opponent coming to town is the Superior Roughriders from Colorado. This will be the first meeting between these two clubs this season. Last season Utah had Superior’s number, only surrendering one out of eight games. The Outliers are also the team that eliminated the Roughriders when the two teams met in the first round of last year’s playoffs. This year, both teams are primed to make some noise in the Mountain Division. Last weekend the Outliers took out the Cheyenne Stampede convincingly, while the Roughriders lost two close games and won a shootout against the Colorado Jr. Eagles.

Some players to keep an eye out for on the Roughrider’s lineup are forwards Nikita Sheberov and Thore Weyrauch. Sheberov is sitting in 8th place in the WSHL for total points with 69, and 3rd in goals with 40. His line mate Weyrauch has had quite the season as well with a stat line of 26 goals and 32 assists.  Between the pipes, LJ Newell has 5 wins with only 2 losses, and Marshall Murphy has earned 8 wins to go with 11 losses.

For the Outliers, the formula that has worked all season hopes to continue as eight players are averaging a point per game or more. The depth for Utah has carried the team all year, and is a main reason why the team has seen such positive results. The depth does not just come up front, but also on the back end. The outliers have received consistent contributions from their Defenseman and all three goalie are carrying save percentages over 90%.

As of late, the Utah offense has been heating up. The beginning of the season was all defense as the team was ranked number one for a majority of 2017.  The team currently sits second in the league with a goals-against of 56 in 31 games but has seen the offense ignite for 178 goals which is fifth best in the league. Superior enters the series having scored 138 goals while surrendering 124 this season.

All three games will take place at the Accord Ice Center. Friday, puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM, Saturday 6:30 PM, and Sunday 12:00 PM. This weekend is also ‘West Valley Family Weekend.’ Come out and support your team this weekend for some good fun and fast paced action.

Go Outliers!
