About the Utah Outliers

The stand out program for the stand out player

In the world of elite performance, an outlier is someone who doesn’t just fit in — they stand apart. They do the extra, think differently, and commit deeper. They train with intention, live with discipline, and compete with the mindset of a winner. We believe greatness isn’t an accident — it’s built in the right environment, with the right habits, under the right mentorship. That’s what we deliver.

Who we are

The Utah Outliers are a U-20 Tier II junior hockey team based out of Park City, UT. Junior hockey is the highest level of amateur hockey in North America. Our roster is made up of driven athletes, ages 17–20, from across the globe — all pursuing one goal: to elevate their game and advance to collegiate or professional hockey. We recruit players who are not only highly skilled but who are hungry to grow, lead, and compete in a championship-caliber environment.

Our Story

Founded in 2016 by Head Coach Paul Taylor and Managing Partner Rich Wolper, the Outliers were built with a clear vision: to create a player development powerhouse. Coach Taylor brought over 15 years of proven success to the program, developing elite-level talent and helping them advance to NCAA and professional hockey. Taylor's philosophy aligned with the message in Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers: The Story of Success — a book that helped inspire both the team’s name and its mission.

An 'outlier' is someone who stands apart from the rest. Research shows that every successful outlier thrives because of specific environments, elite training, and distinct advantages that fuel their achievement.

Our Mission

To build winners — on and off the ice. Our development model is built on the core belief that success is earned through structure, discipline, and advantage. We create the systems, culture, and opportunity to help every athlete push their limits, dominate in competition, and rise to the next level. This is The Outliers Way.
