OUTLIERS ELIMINATE OGDEN MUSTANGS ON KEDZO'S OT WINNER

PARK CITY, U.T. - With two and a half minutes remaining in overtime, forward Tyler Kedzo’s powerplay snipe brought the Black Rock Event Center crowd to its feet with a 4-3 win for the Utah Outliers hockey club, sweeping the Ogden Mustangs in the first round of the Dineen Cup Playoffs.

After a four-goal onslaught in the series’s first contest and the opening tally in Game Two, Kedzo’s heroics are far from unfamiliar for Utah head coach Richard Bohan. He exclaimed, “Who else but Tyler to win it? What a series he had!”

That snipe arrived after a back-and-forth regulation. Centerman Luke Goldberg handed the Outliers their first two goals, but after opening the matchup with its first score, the second marker had to wait. It followed three Mustangs goals over the first period and opening five minutes of the second.

Entering the third period down a goal, forward Colin Hazlett extended his point streak to three days with the game-tying goal, jumping into the back of the net about a minute and a half into the final frame of regulation.

Bohan called the team’s energy one of the biggest factors in securing the victory. He said, “We came out in the third and scored early to get even. Even though we did not win in the third we had a lot of energy in O.T. We carried the play throughout O.T.”

That momentum began by outshooting Ogden 15 to 12 in the third period, and it carried into a domination in the extra frame. The Outliers held the shots advantage 11-4 in overtime.

Utah moves on into the best-of-five Mountain Division Finals against the Grand Junction River Hawks. The series’s dates and times will be announced on Monday morning. After which, tickets will be available at utahoutliers.com/tickets.
