Hazlett’s Late Goal Grants Outliers 2-0 Series Lead
SALT LAKE CITY, U.T. - Scoring with just 47 seconds left on the clock, forward Colin Hazlett’s goal lifted the Utah Outliers hockey club to a 2-1 advantage in the game on Friday night and a 2-0 series lead over the Ogden Mustangs in the first round of the Dineen Cup Playoffs.
Utah Forward Anton Sollin forced a turnover in the Outliers’ offensive zone, alternate captain Mags Sagadiev scooped up the puck, and he hit Hazlett, ready to deposit the puck over the goal line and secure the win.
Following an assist in Game One, Illinois-native’s game-winner marked his seventh stretch of points in back-to-back contests of the 2025-2026 campaign (first in the post-season).
Head coach Richard Bohan credited the victory more to upstanding defense than to clutch offense. He said, “We made a solid commitment to defensive hockey. P.K. [penalty kill] came up big when they had their chances.”
The Utah defense fended off all three Ogden powerplays. In addition to the penalty kill, Bohan thanked his goaltending. Netminder Colin Tornqvist backstopped the win, sprawling to 39 total saves.
Adding to Hazlett’s run, forward Tyler Kedzo kept up his dynamic playoff start with the contest’s first goal with about four minutes remaining in the opening frame. The 19-year-old kicked off the post-season with his first-ever four-tally performance on Wednesday night in Game One.
Ogden forward Caleb Bendell evened the score within the last five minutes of the third period before Hazlett’s laser to the back of the net in the final minute.
The series heads to Park City on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the Black Rock Event Center. Should a fourth matchup prove necessary, the teams stand set to drop the puck there again at 6:05 p.m. on Monday. If the series heads to Game Five, the Outliers and Mustangs return to the Steiner Ice Arena for a winner-take-all contest at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday night.
