Utah Outliers Announce Team Captains

The Utah Outliers are proud to announce the first members of their 2025-26 leadership group, naming defenseman Jesse Ivanovic as team captain and forward Magzhan Sagadiev as assistant captain. Both players have distinguished themselves through their consistent work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to the Outliers’ team culture.

Ivanovic, entering his second season with the Outliers, has earned the “C” by demonstrating what it means to be a leader on and off the ice. Known for his determination, accountability, and ability to set the tone in practice and games, he is seen by teammates as a role model and by coaches as someone who lives out the identity of the Outliers program.

Head coach Paul Taylor spoke highly of Ivanovic’s impact on the team:

“Jesse embodies everything we want in a captain. He competes with intensity, holds himself to high standards, and expects the same from the people around him. He’s the kind of player who leads with his words and actions. We’re confident he will carry on our tradition of strong leadership.”

Assistant captain Magzhan Sagadiev also brings an essential presence to the Outliers’ leadership core. His consistent effort, mature approach, and positive influence on teammates made him a natural choice for the role. Coaches have praised his ability to lead with humility while still holding his teammates accountable.

Taylor described Sagadiev’s value to the team:

“Magzhan is a great example of what it means to be a professional every day. He works hard, he cares about his teammates, and he does all the little things right. Having him in a leadership position will help guide this group, and he’s someone the younger players can look up to.”

The Outliers believe that leadership is not limited to just a couple of players, but rather a responsibility that should be shared throughout the team. With that in mind, the organization plans to announce additional captains later this season as it expands the leadership group. This approach allows players to grow into leadership roles and ensures that the team has a well-rounded group of voices both on and off the ice.

With Ivanovic and Sagadiev setting the standard, the Outliers are confident their leadership group will help the team navigate the challenges of a demanding season. Their influence will play a critical role in upholding the Outliers’ culture of hard work, accountability, and relentless pursuit of excellence.

As the season begins, fans can look forward to seeing Ivanovic lead the team onto the ice wearing the “C” on his jersey, with Sagadiev standing alongside him as the Outliers continue their journey in pursuit of another championship-caliber season.
