Outliers Cap Regular Season with 5-2 Win Over Spud Kings
PARK CITY, U.T. - Never trailing in Friday night’s victory, the Utah Outliers hockey club capped their regular season with a 5-2 drubbing of the Idaho Falls Spud Kings.
With the Outliers jumping on the board with two goals in the first period, team captain Jesse Ivanovic credited a hot start as instrumental in the win. He said, “We’d struggled with the first period our last couple games, so dialing that in was really good. Hopping on the board first is always nice.”
Forward Tommy Enrietto continued his hot streak with the contest’s first goal four minutes and 18 seconds into the first period. That makes six goals and 10 assists in just 18 games played for the 21-year-old.
Forward Charlie Sorrick added the second tally with about a minute and a half remaining in the frame. The Arizona-native converted his first goal at the juniors level.
The Spud Kings made their way onto the scoreboard midway through the second period, but the Outliers responded with two goals within the last six minutes of the frame. Forwards Luke Goldberg and Mags Sagadiev rifled through markers to elevate Utah to a 4-1 lead by the end of the middle inning.
Ivanovic explained that group contribution made the most drastic difference on Friday night. He said, “I think everybody did their part. That was the big thing we were going into tonight’s game with.”
With defenseman Jett Carroll scoring within the game’s final minute, the neon and gray wrapped up the regular season with a 5-2 win.
Ivanovic recapped the regular season, focusing on the group’s camaraderie. He reminisced, “I think all the guys have gelled together really well. We’ve built something special here; a really good brotherhood. It makes it so much easier playing for one another, and when you love the guys that’s next to you on your right or left, it makes it way easier to play.”
The team takes that mentality into the playoffs against the Mountain Division rival Ogden Mustangs in a best-of-five series. Games one and two are set to be played at the Steiner Ice Arena in Salt Lake City on April 1 and 3 at 7:00 p.m. Games three and four (if necessary) are scheduled to be back in Park City at the Black Rock Mountain Event Center on Saturday April 4 at 7:05 p.m. and Monday April 6 at 6:05 p.m. If necessary, game five will be at the The Ice Sheet, with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop on April 8.
