Outliers Defeat Miners In Season Opener
Utah Outliers 7, Rock Springs Miners 4
September 20, 2025 – Rock Springs, WY
The Utah Outliers opened the 2025–26 season in style, skating to a 7–4 road victory over the Rock Springs Miners. Goaltender Colin Tornqvist got the nod for the season opener and backstopped the team to its first two points of the year.
Utah wasted no time setting the tone, striking on an early power play. Anton Sollin worked the puck along the half wall before sliding a slick backdoor pass to Johnny Carney, who buried it for the 1–0 lead. The Miners answered late in the first period with a power-play goal of their own, knotting the game 1–1 at intermission.
The Outliers regained momentum in the second period with another power play goal. Jonas Pettersen blasted a point shot that created a rebound for Tyler Gudjonson, who cashed in to make it 2–1. Utah doubled its lead moments later when Pettersen disrupted a play in the defensive zone and launched a stretch pass to Magzhan Sagadiev. Sagadiev and Sjur Østbø broke in on a two-man rush, with Sagadiev faking a shot before slipping a perfect pass to Østbø for the finish and a 3–1 advantage.
The Outliers kept pressing, and their fourth goal came off strong offensive-zone work. Max Haims and Tyler Origitano cycled the puck down low before Origitano drove the net. A rebound spilled out to Zach Spafford, who buried it for a 4–1 lead. Rock Springs cut into the deficit with another power-play marker, but Utah responded again in the third. A rush chance produced multiple rebounds at the Miners net before Oscar Bylund finally stuffed one home, extending the lead to 6–2.
The Miners pushed back with two quick goals to close the gap, but the Outliers sealed the win late. Østbø fired a rush shot that was turned aside, but Sollin jumped on the rebound to net Utah’s seventh of the night.
When the final horn sounded, the Outliers skated away with an impressive 7–4 win to kick off their NCDC campaign. With balanced scoring and contributions throughout the lineup, Utah left Rock Springs with confidence and momentum to build on as they head into next weekend's games.
